Big news friends: We are partnering up with the Alianait Arts Festival to bring you the first ever Alianait Instagram contest! From June 26th to July 1st, Alianait will be running its annual music festival in Iqaluit. From indie rock to circus arts to Inuktitut music, the festival will bring a variety of musicians from Nunavut, Canada, and the world to what looks like their largest program ever.

To celebrate Alianait and give our readers a chance to get even closer to the music, we have been working with the festival team to organize an awesome Alianait Instagram contest. It's super easy to participate - check the details below!

Alianait Instagram Contest

To enter the contest, follow these very simple steps:

  1. Follow @findtruen on Instagram.
  2. Use the hashtag #alianait2015 when you post photos from the festival.

Alianait Festival Preview

So for those of you looking to plan your Instagram game, we've selected a few festival highlights that should make for great photo ops. Note that the Alianait Arts Festival is so much more than concerts and performances: there are workshops, art exhibits, and community events as well! Download the pocket schedule to make your own Alianait itinerary.

National Aboriginal Day Concert: June 21st Though the festival officially starts on June 26th, the kick-off begins with the National Aboriginal Day Concert on Sunday. Featuring performances from local favourites like Celina Kalluk and Natashia Allakariallak (watch our Instagram video below for a sneak peek), and the chance to win two tickets to Yellowknife to attend Folk on the Rocks, this will no doubt be a great celebration of local culture - and a good time to test your Instagram skills!

Qulliq Concert: June 26th The opening concert will officially launch the festival, and includes performers like Kasuqtatiit, Iqaluit's own gumboot trio, and Etulu Aningmiuq, whose song "Aiguuq" was featured in our Valentine's Day love song post.

A Sense of Place: Entire Festival Alianait and the Nunatta Sunakkugaangit Museum are going to debut a brand new exhibit - something they do every year during the festival.

Qilaut Concert: June 27th Some big names in this show! From crooner David Myles to songwriter Agaaqtoq (who we also featured in our Valentine's Day post!) to the indie rock stylings of Greenland's Nanook band. This one is sure to sell out, so get your tickets soon.

Gospel Sing-a-Long: June 28th One of Alianait's many awesome workshops, this one will let you sing alongside local legends like Chris Coleman and Etulu Aningmiuq.

Greenlandic Mask Dance: June 29th Always popular, this workshop will give participants the chance to learn the basics of Greenlandic mask dance. Figure it out and who knows - you may perform at Alianait one year!

Artcirq Cabaret: July 1st The final performance, and it promises to be quite the show! Led by Igloolik's circus-arts troupe, this will likely be one of the best places to get a great photo.

Visit Alianait online to purchase tickets, and check them out on Facebook for more information. The Alianait Instagram contest is open to anyone with a smartphone (including Alianait volunteers!), though obviously anyone who gets paid by Alianait or is named Anubha Momin in not eligible.
